About this event

Join us for an exciting meetup focused on Kubernetes and containers as we supercharge your K8s deployments! This insightful evening will feature four lightning talks, each designed to enlighten and enhance your Kubernetes journey. We will also have Chicago style pizza, drinks, networking and awesome swag.

Lightning Talks

Automating Complex Applications in Kubernetes (Mo Haghighi)

As Kubernetes continues to revolutionize container orchestration, understanding the significance of stateful and stateless workloads becomes paramount. In this talk, we’ll explore the unique challenges and opportunities presented by cloud-native applications that require specific requirements. From databases to distributed systems, join us in deciphering how Kubernetes provides a robust framework for managing complex applications through Custom Resources and Operators. Whether you’re an experienced Kubernetes practitioner or a newcomer eager to grasp the intricacies, this abstract promises an insightful journey into the heart of why stateful applications matter in the Kubernetes landscape.

A Golden Path for a Cloud Native Relational Database (John Coyne)

Learn how we developed a "Golden Path" for application engineers to follow for provisioning and managing a PostgreSQL database from a CICD pipeline targeting a Kubernetes environment, as well as deploying an application to securely connect to the database. Involved in the process are Kubernetes Custom Resources and an Operator for provisioning, custom Helm charts for configuration, Vault for database secrets, Flyway for managing database schema changes, init containers for secrets injection, and sidecar containers for automatic rotation.

Navigating Kubernetes: Unleashing the Power of Helm for App Deployment (Sat Agrawal)

In the dynamic world of cloud-native engineering, deploying applications efficiently on Kubernetes is paramount. Enter Helm, the ultimate accelerator for Kubernetes deployments. In this engaging talk, deep dive into how Helm revolutionizes the deployment process for both stateful and stateless applications. From simplifying complex configurations to automating version control and dependency management, Helm empowers engineers to deploy with confidence and efficiency.

Demystifying Observability in Kubernetes (Sagar Kesarpu & Sajal Nigam)

In the dynamic world of Kubernetes, understanding what's happening within your clusters is crucial for maintaining stability, diagnosing issues, and optimizing performance. Observability, the ability to understand a system's internal state by examining its outputs, is paramount in this environment. From containerized applications to microservices architectures, we'll delve into how to effectively collect, store, and analyze these data types to gain insights into your cluster's behavior. Whether you're new to Kubernetes or looking to enhance your observability practices, this talk will provide valuable insights and actionable takeaways to empower you in managing and monitoring your Kubernetes deployments effectively.
