Marcus Jones' technology journey is fueled by a passion for continuous learning. Initially planning to become an application developer, Marcus was offered a position right out of school in an Automotive Insurance Monitoring and Recovery team. Although he had limited knowledge at the time, Marcus embraced the opportunity, quickly mastering the field. This early experience laid the foundation for his eventual leadership at Discover where he is now serving as the Senior Product Owner of the Digital Experience Monitoring team.
Growing the Monitoring Discipline at Discover
Marcus joined Discover as an engineer. His role evolved over time – he moved to a role as an application architect and is now a product owner. Currently serving as the Senior Principal Owner for the Digital Experience Monitoring Team, Marcus leads the charge in monitoring Discover's website, platforms, and APIs to ensure seamless customer interactions.
From card swipes to deep dives into customer interactions, Marcus plays a crucial role in maintaining the integrity and performance of Discover's digital services.
Key Contributions to Observability Platform Adoption
Marcus was instrumental in a massive migration process that moved the entire enterprise to the same observability platform and upskilled employees on adoption and use of the new tool. His engineering background and previous experience with observability and application performance management tools contributed significantly to the project's success.
Marcus helped identify and address pain points before they became issues, prioritized migration tasks, and championed automation and self-service approaches to streamline the transition for teams . His foresight and advocation were key factors in the smooth transition. His leadership and clear path to migration, along with the support of senior leadership and common goal alignment, ensured the project's success.

The current that runs through Marcus Jones’ career is the passion to always learn something new. This passion will serve him well as the world increasingly embraces Artificial Intelligence (AI). Marcus is particularly excited about innovations in the Fintech industry, especially the use of AI in monitoring and observability. He sees great potential in using AI to parse vast amounts of data and metrics in a meaningful way.
